To make YouTube Shorts from a Twitch stream, find a moment worth sharing, put it in a vertical frame, review it, then post it to YouTube as a Short. This guide shows each step with Eklipse.
Before You Start #
- An Eklipse account with your Twitch account connected. Signing up is free; AI clip processing and exports are part of Eklipse Premium.
- A Twitch stream between 15 minutes and 5 hours long, broadcast in the last 14 days, with past broadcasts saved on Twitch.
- Your YouTube account, if you want to post from Eklipse instead of uploading by hand.
Step 1: Find a Moment Worth Turning into a Short #
A whole stream is far too long for a Short, so start by picking one moment.
- Open Video Library and select the Streams tab. Click Pull Manually if your stream isn’t listed.
- Click Get Clip next to the stream. The AI looks for in-game moments, mic volume spikes, and chat activity, and returns a set of highlight clips. A four-hour VOD can take up to an hour.
You can also skip the AI and scrub the VOD yourself if you already know the moment you want.
Step 2: Turn the Highlight into a Vertical Clip #
YouTube Shorts are square or vertical videos up to 3 minutes long, and a 9:16 vertical frame fills the phone screen.
- Open the processed stream, choose a clip, and click Convert to TikTok/Shorts/Reels.
- Pick a template, then trim the clip with the duration bar.
- Set the facecam area and drag the facecam and game feed into place so the action stays in frame.
- Add auto-captions or text from the left sidebar if you want them, then click Confirm.
Prefer a finished edit in one pass? AI Edit reframes a 15-second to 3-minute clip to vertical and adds captions and effects for you.
Screenshot tip: the editor with the facecam area and the game feed layout visible.
Step 3: Review the Clip Before Exporting #
- The main action stays visible in the vertical crop.
- Audio is clear and in sync.
- Captions and text are readable and don’t cover the killfeed or crosshair.
- There are no black bars, abrupt cuts, or unrelated footage.
- It looks right on a phone-sized screen.
Step 4: Post the Clip to YouTube as a Short #
- Export the clip: click the purple Export button, choose your output settings, and wait for it to render.
- Click Share on the exported video in your Clips library.
- Select YouTube Shorts in the Content Publisher, connect your YouTube account, and post.
You can also download the clip and upload it to YouTube yourself. Keep it 3 minutes or shorter, in a square or vertical format, so YouTube treats it as a Short.

Troubleshooting #
Q: Can I make YouTube Shorts from an old Twitch VOD?
A: Eklipse pulls Twitch streams broadcast in the last 14 days. For an older recording, download it and import it as an MP4 instead.
Q: My clip uploaded as a regular YouTube video, not a Short.
A: Check that it is 3 minutes or shorter and square or vertical. Horizontal 16:9 videos don’t count as Shorts.
Q: Do I have to find the highlight myself?
A: No. After you click Get Clip, the AI picks the highlights. You still choose which clip to turn into a Short.
